Electrical Fires

|
Most fires of electrical origin are a result of defective or inadequate wiring
and equipment. Extension cords should be used as a temporary connection only
and must NOT be used as a means of permanent wiring, especially for high wattage
appliances such as air conditioners, portable electric heaters and freezers.
If you are using extension cords consider installing a permanent receptacle
in the area required or relocate the appliance the extension cord is being
used with.
|
Many common household products can be dangerous when exposed to fire or get
in the hands of young children. These products should be stored properly
and safely.
|
The following products may be Corrosive and or Toxic. Others may be Flammable
or Reactive. Check the warning labels to ensure that you know what you are
dealing with.
Don’t store flammable liquids or gasses in the home. Propane cylinders should
be stored outside or in a shed. Gas cans, charcoal lighter and other automotive
fluids should be stored in well ventilated areas. Always store these items
in their original containers.
|
-
Carpet and upholstery shampoo
|
Gardening items such as fertilizer and pesticides should be kept out of the
reach of children. When using these items, gloves and other precautionary
clothing should be worn. Wash your hands thoroughly after using these materials.
